Berlin Couple Closes Out Popular Wedding Venue

WALLINGFORD, CT — After 56 years of hosting weddings, banquets, numerous events and countless memories, Villa Capri in Wallingford officially closed its doors this past weekend.

The facility went out the way it started — with a wedding.

Berlin’s Bob and Michele Mullen’s special day will forever be remembered as the final wedding ever hosted at Villa Capri, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The couple told the Record-Journal they thought it was exciting that their wedding would be the last event at Villa Capri but also that it was sad the tradition of returning to the venue for other weddings wouldn’t continue.

Villa Capri will be demolished to make way for a new Cumberland Farms at the North Colony Road site.

Villa Capri was founded in 1960 by George and Rosalie Mesite.

The Mesite family announced in February that it would close the facility this summer, saying it was a difficult decision, “but we have decided to move on to the next chapter in our lives while keeping many fond, wonderful memories.”

The family said in a statement at the time that they “decided to entertain an offer so that we can continue to concentrate on running all of our Sonic of CT franchise stores, while building our brand, and our current business investments along with new ventures to come.”
