BVFD Kicks Off Its 80th Year

BERLIN, CT — The volunteers making up Berlin's bravest gathered earlier this month to begin year-long celebrations of a prestigious anniversary, as well as honor those who've helped with the journey.

The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual holiday/awards dinner on Saturday, Jan. 7, marking the official beginning of the BVFD's 80th anniversary.

In addition, the BVFD honored several people with service awards. They included:
• 5 years of service - Frank Papa

• 35 years of service - Rich Cop

• 40 years of service - Bob Brown

• Firefighter of the Year - Chris Trovarelli

• Ed Haber Award - Phil Kulas
