"The Public Works Department would like to inform residents of the local ordinances that apply
to the removal of ice and snow from public roadways," wrote the town in a statement Monday.
According to public works, property owners are not allowed to shovel, throw, or plow ice and snow from private property into, or across a public street.

These actions are strictly prohibited and subject to a written warning and/or a $100 fine as noted in the Town of Berlin Municipal Code.
In addition, there are some responsibilities residents must be aware of, officials said.
For example, they are responsible for clearing snow and ice from any public sidewalk fronting along their property.
"All sidewalks are to be cleared and/or sanded within 24 hours of the completion of street plowing operations," wrote the town. "It is the responsibility of the property owner fronting that sidewalk to make it safe for public travel."
Failure to comply will subject the abutting property owner to a written warning and/or $100 fine as noted in the Town of Berlin Municipal Code.
Violators of town parking bans before, during, and after storms could also net scofflaws fines and a towed vehicle.
