BERLIN, CT — A local high school student recently received a major honor in the academic world, according to school leaders.

Berlin High School Principal Katie Amenta announced that Jack Salerno has been named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

A Letter of Commendation from Berlin High and the National Merit Scholarship Corp. (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented to the senior.

From advanced and honors to AP and University of Connecticut ECE courses, Salerno has challenged himself academically since entering Berlin High School.

He is a leader in the Berlin High School Upbeat program and co-captain of the Berlin FIRST
Robotics team, where he is also the programming lead.

Upon graduation, Salerno aims to study environmental science and biology.

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being
recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
