Berlin High Seniors Earn Major Arts Awards

The duo was honored this week as CAS Arts Awards winners for excellence in visual and performing arts.

BERLIN, CT — Two seniors from Berlin High School have been recognized for excellence in the arts through the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) Arts Awards, school officials announced this week.

BHS Principal Katie Amenta said Chloe Constantine and Addison Guarino were selected as this year’s recipients, representing visual and performing arts, respectively.

Both students were honored at a CAS awards banquet held on Monday, March 30, at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville (Southington).

The awards honor two seniors from each CAS member school who demonstrate achievement in the arts, along with strong scholarship and leadership.

Constantine was recognized for the visual arts.

At Berlin High, they participate in the concert band and jazz band and serve as drum major for the Redcoat Marching Band.

Constantine has also worked as a lighting designer for recent fall plays and performed on stage in the school’s production of “Frozen.”

Beyond school, Constantine volunteers as a camp counselor with the Joseph and Anthony Manzi Foundation’s summer band camp and contributes to community arts initiatives.

Their artwork has been displayed in the Berlin High School music suite and featured in local businesses through the Art Around Town program.

Constantine has earned one Gold Key and two Silver Keys in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and is a member of the National Honor Society.

After graduation, Constantine plans to attend Marist University to study fashion design.

Guarino was recognized for performing arts.

She has been active in Berlin High’s music and theater programs, including the choral program and Madrigal Singers, and has held leading roles in school productions.

Most recently, she portrayed Elsa in “Frozen.”

Guarino has received honors in the CMEA Northern Regional and Connecticut All-State choirs and earned HALO Award nominations for Best Actress.

She is also a member of the National Honor Society, captain of the varsity girls' cross country team, and a participant in the Upbeat program.

In addition, she is a founding member of the school’s all-girls a cappella group.

Guarino plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater after graduation.
