Berlin Again Issues 'No Skating' Order For Local Ponds/Lakes: UPDATE

Citing today's rain, the Town of Berlin said Friday, Jan. 31, that the ice isn't safe enough for skating or other activities on the ice.

BERLIN, CT — The Town of Berlin Friday, Jan. 31, has again ruled against skating, citing safety concerns.

As of Friday morning, Jan. 31, skating is not allowed at Paper Goods Pond Park on Hart/Harris Streets; Willard Pond on Norton Road; Hubbard School Pond on Grove Street; and Sage Park on the Berlin Turnpike.

Berlin parks and grounds staff members regularly check the ice at several skating hotspots in town.

Berlin officials said the town follows the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection ice safety guidelines when it comes to skating at town ponds.

When skating is safe, the Town of Berlin will notify folks via Facebook and the Town of Berlin website.
