New Carpet Project At Berlin Library Will Result In Disruptions

There will be service disruptions at the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library through Memorial Day weekend due to carpeting work.

BERLIN, CT — In a couple of weeks, guests of the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library will definitely want to utilize the floor mats outside upon entering.

And if librarians tell folks to wipe their feet prior to shushing them to be quiet, don't mind them.

They're only protecting the new carpeting that is being installed this month.

The work, which began Monday at the 234 Kensington Road site, will result in portions of the library being closed, with the children's area expected to be closed two weeks, according to the library.

"We are excited about this upgrade that will provide a more welcoming and comfortable space for all our visitors," wrote the library this week in an announcement.

"During this time, you ma experience some disruptinos to our usual library service," wrote the library.

Monday, the library posted a photo of a gutted children's department with all the shelves, seats, etc. moved out to facilitate the massive carpet job.

In addition to the children's department, other parts of the library could be closed for a period of time during the installation.

And, in addition to new carpeting, the library is also getting electrical upgrades.

One service folks may want to utilize is the library's curbside service, a pandemic-era feature that now may be required because public access to the book collection will be limited during the carpet installation.

All users need to do is call the library and see if a book is available and accessible. Then library staff can retrieve the book (s) and, even, bring it to your car if desired.

"We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to update and improve our facilities," wrote Berlin-Peck Library Director Kimberly McNally.

"If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask any of our friendly staff members."
