Berlin Man Charged in Southington Car vs. Gas Station Incident
The car and the station were not the only things gassed up, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington police said they have charged a Berlin man after his car slammed into a local gas station late last month.
Southington police on Monday said Brett Smith, 42 of Berlin, was arrested via a warrant and charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and possession of narcotics.
He posted a $5.000 bond and was given a court date of Jan. 30, police said.

On Dec. 28 at 8:34 p.m., Southington police received a report that a car had hit the Sunoco gas station, 957 West St.
When officers arrived, they saw that a 2018 KIA had been driven into the front building.

Smith was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital. As a result of the impact, the building sustained moderate damage, police said.
The vehicle also required towing from the scene. The Southington Fire Dept., AMR Ambulance, the Southington Building and Electrical inspectors were notified and responded to the scene.
The investigating officer located two packages of heroin and crack cocainein rock form inside the vehicle, according to a report.
He was also able to establish probable cause indicating that Smith was intoxicated at the time of the collision, according to a report.
