Berlin Mother Leads Effort To Send Hundreds Of Packages To Troops

A Berlin mother, whose own son is in the military, has started a nonprofit that has sent more than 400 packages to soldiers overseas.

BERLIN, CT - A local woman has started a nonprofit organization that has sent more than 600 packages to troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the group's web page. Karen Cote started by sending a package to her son who was stationed in Kuwait in 2015.

He appreciated the gesture so much that Cote was inspired to send packages to other soldiers. This year, the organization, dubbed Hero Boxes, has sent more than 400 packages.

This past year Cote organized a committee of volunteers, and hosted over 400 community members at the local VFW for “Giving Thanks to Our Troops Night,” according to Hero Boxes' website.

“It’s just been amazing… it just makes you feel good, as a military mom,” says Cote.
