Berlin Mourns One of its Own Sons

A 17-year-old football player passed away Saturday after battling cancer; a candlelight vigil has been scheduled.

BERLIN, CT – A candlelight memorial will be held at Sage Park on Wednesday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. to honor Nick Zuk, a Berlin High School student and varsity football player who passed away Saturday, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Nick, a 17-year-old student going into his senior year of high school, had a passion for football. As a junior, he was the starting right offensive tackle and defensive nose guard for the Berlin High varsity football team.

To honor and celebrate Nick’s life, family, friends and members of the community will gather at the football field at Sage Park to decorate luminary bags. Once the bags have been decorated, they will be placed on the football field and arranged in the shape of a heart with the number 53, Nick’s jersey number, in the center.
