BERLIN, CT — In its first meeting of 2023, the Berlin Town Council will mull a proposal making it easier for the town to award contacts without requiring a bidding process.

The Berlin Town Council will host a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Berlin Town Hall to amend an ordinance that, essentially, increases the bid threshold regarding contracts.

Currently, any business that costs $10,000 or more requires a formal bidding process.

The town, however, wants to increase that bid threshold to contracts/purchases that are $25,000 or more, allowing for such deals to be finalized quicker.

The council's ordinance committee voted Dec. 8 to formally recommend the new policy, with local residents/taxpayers able to comment on the plan at Tuesday's hearing.
