
Alessandro DeFilippis, of Newington, beloved husband of Marinella (Tarascio) DeFilippis, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Hartford Hospital.
Born and raised in Lenola (Latina) Italy, he served in the Italian Army in Como, Lombardia. Alessandro and his family immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Hartford. He worked as a foreman for Argo Industries in Berlin for more than 40 years. Alessandro was a member of the Pratolana Society as well as the Caninattini Society in Hartford where he and many friends enjoyed watching soccer matches from around the world.
Another favorite pastime was summer gardening, he spent time tending to his vegetable garden and eating figs from his fig tree. He appreciated all types of music and was an amazing dancer.

A wonderful man with a smile big enough to brighten any room, Alessandro loved life and lived it spending time with his family. Sunday dinners with the family and grandchildren were days that he always looked forward to. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be truly missed by all.
In addition to his wife Marinella of 43 years, Alessandro is survived by his son, Max DeFilippis and wife, Beth; his daughter, Daniela Torres and husband, Denis, and daughter, Dorena; his four cherished grandchildren: Giuliana, Gabriela, Ava and Denis; his sister, Lucy Fasolo; his sisters-in-law Josephine Franzo and husband, Sam and Nella Tiralongo and husband, Salvatore; his brother-in-law John Tarascio and wife, Jacqueline as well as many nieces and nephews both in the U.S. and in Italy. He also leaves behind his closest friends, Gino Giansiracusa, Raffaele Tozza, Sebby Frasca and Pasquale Bazzano. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Marino and Luigi DeFilippis.

Alessandro's family would like to thank Dr. John Elefteriades from Yale Aortic Institute, Dr. David Underhill, Dr. David Domenichini and all the dedicated and caring staff on CB5 at Hartford Hospital for their compassion shown to them.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Funeral services will begin at 8:45 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, December 16 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Newington. He will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
