Berlin Obituary: Donald Garuti, Sr., 69

Donald A. Garuti, Sr., 69, of New Britain, husband of Pamela (Davey) Garuti, passed away Monday (July 4, 2016) at his home.

A native and lifelong New Britain resident, he was son of the late John and Lois (Austin) Garuti. Don attended Pulaski High School and was a truck driver for American Paving in Berlin, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed spending time watching NASCAR, the New York Giants, the Yankees and working in his garden.

Besides his wife Pamela of 50 years, he leaves four sons, Donald Garuti, Jr. of New Britain; Ryan Garuti and his wife Alicia of Terryville; Gregory Garuti and his wife Melissa of New Britain; and Richard Garuti, Sr. and his wife Ruthy also of New Britain. Don was known as Papa to six special grandchildren, Michael, Richard, Jr, Jason, Alayna, Damian and Anthony. He also leaves a brother, James Garuti and his wife Cathy of Terryville; two sisters, Elizabeth Bak and her husband John of Southington; and Lyla Galasyn of Colchester; and many nieces and nephews; and three special cats, Zorro, Patches and Dorito. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, John Garuti and his in-laws, Edwin and Jeanette Davey.4

Funeral services are Thursday evening 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Thursday from 5 PM until the time of the service at 7.
