Berlin Obituary: Joan Seaburg, 83

Our beloved mother, Joan H. (Callahan) Seaburg, 83, widow of Richard H. Seaburg, formerly of East Berlin, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at The Saybrook at Haddam.

Born November 7, 1933 in Lowell, MA to the late James E. and Helen (Drew) Callahan, she graduated from Lowell High School in 1951. Joan married her high school sweetheart in December 1951 and moved to East Berlin, where they raised their two children. After his passing in 1968, Joan went on to finish her college education. She graduated from CCSU in May 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree and was employed at the Blind Center of the West Haven VA until her retirement in 1985.

Joan had many hobbies including camping at Hammonasset Beach with her family, taking cruises and traveling with tour groups. She had a particular love of York and Ogunquit, Maine. Joan enjoyed spending long family weekends at The Sparhawk Resort and walking the Marginal Way every chance she got.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Richard (Kathleen) Seaburg of Madison and Linda (Richard) Willett of Hernando, FL and two grandchildren, Erik Seaburg and Kara Seaburg.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of The Saybrook at Haddam for all their help and compassion over these past five years.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
