Berlin Obituary: Joanne Clark, 81

Joanne (Carlson) Clark, 81, of East Berlin, widow of Robert Clark, Sr., passed away peacefully Friday, April 8, 2016, at Hartford Hospital.

Daughter of the late Oscar and Doris (Gibney) Carlson, she grew up in New Britain and moved to East Berlin in 1962. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1952, Joanne received her undergraduate degree from UConn where she majored in Physical Therapy, her graduate degree in education from CCSU. She was employed as an Elementary School teacher at Kensington Grammar School and later Hubbard Elementary School in East Berlin for 29 years, until retiring in 1995. While at UConn, Joanne was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. During her career as an educator, she enjoyed membership in Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for Women Educators.

She was a member of Woman's Club of New Britain, College Club of New Britain, Kensington Garden Club, and volunteered at the New Britain Museum of American Art. She was on the Board of the East Berlin Library in addition to serving on the Board of Visiting Nurses of Berlin. Joanne was well known for her quick wit, her love of reading, traveling and spending summers at her beach house in Indiantown, Old Saybrook and all things HUSKIE!

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Catherine Clark Goldenbaum and her husband, Douglas of Huntington, NY; two granddaughters, Sara and Anna Goldenbaum, both of Huntington and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Clark, her son, Robert S. Clark, Jr. and her brother, Robert Carlson.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday 11 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. There are no calling hours.
