Berlin Obituary: Kathy Emanuelsen, 69

Kathy Lynn Emanuelsen, 69, of Berlin, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Hartford Hospital.

Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, daughter of the late Henry and Laura (Hauge) Emanuelsen, she was a longtime Berlin resident and a member of the Church of Christ, Congregational, Newington. She honorably served her country in the U.S. Army.

Kathy attended the Somerset Hospital School of Nursing, received her Bachelor Degree in Biology and her Master in Education and Hospital Administration from the University of Hartford. She went on to spend a 40 year career at Hartford Hospital as a Registered Nurse.

She was an author, writing and editing five books in the Library of Congress Medical Dept. She also enjoyed skiing and playing tennis.

A loving sister and aunt, she leaves her brother, Kirk Emanuelsen and his wife Madeline of Staten Island, NY, her sister-in-law, Susan Emanuelsen of Gadsden, AL, her nieces and nephews, Kerri Jude Jones of Virginia Beach, VA, LTCDR Kirk Emanuelsen and his wife Ashley of Jacksonville, FL, Jason Emanuelsen and his wife Emily of Gadsden, AL, Mark Emanuelsen and his wife Jane of Birmingham, AL, and Kristin Greer and her husband Michael, of Gadsden, AL, and seven great nieces and nephews, Ryan Jones, John and Morgan Emanuelsen, Cate and Henry Emanuelsen, and Mae and James Greer. She was predeceased by her brother, Peder Emanuelsen.

All services will be private. Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is serving her family.
