Berlin Obituary: Zofia Szpyt, 70

Condolences to her family and friends.

Zofia (Zagrabelna) Szpyt, 70, of Berlin, died on Friday, August 4, 2017, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Stanislaw Szpyt for 47 years.

She was born in Poland and came to the United States in 1974. Prior to her retirement, Zofia was employed by Hartford Hospital for over 25 years. She was a parishioner of, volunteer and belonged to the rosary group at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church before becoming a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Zofia loved helping others and seeing people happy; was a tremendous cook, a loving wife, mother and friend. She always had a positive outlook on life with a generous heart that touched many lives.

Zofia was predeceased by her daughter Basia Szpyt, mother, Maria (Wazna) Zagrabelna, father Walenty Zagrabelny, and her three brothers, Jan, Tadeusz and Mieczyslaw. She leaves behind her daughter, Monika Beblowski and her husband Jozef and her son John Szpyt. Zofia also leaves her brother, Stanley Zagrabelny and his two sons, Walter and Chris, her niece Barbara Omilanowski and her husband Anthony and her two daughters, Evelina and Joanna, and two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews in Poland.

Her funeral service will begin on Thursday, August 10th, at 8:30 a.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Burritt Hill.
