Berlin Officials Issue Ice Safety Warning

Due to unstable and thin ice, Berlin is banning skating on area ponds and waterways until further notice.

BERLIN, CT — Local officials Wednesday said, despite the cold January temperatures, skating on local ponds is forbidden.

Citing safety concerns, the Town of Berlin issued an alert stating "there is no skating on any ponds due to the ice not meeting the thickness requirements."

Berlin parks and grounds staff members regularly check the ice at several skating hotspots in town.
