Berlin Officials To Review Final Report On Controversial Food Waste Firm

The Berlin Town Council next week will review a final state report regarding a food waste plant in town and noise/odor concerns.

BERLIN, CT — Local officials will again, next week, update the community on the ongoing saga involving a Berlin food waste processing company and resident complaints of odor and noise.

The Berlin Town Council is meeting Tuesday, Jan 20, at Berlin Town Hall at 7 p.m., with the situation on the agenda.

Thestate Department of Public Health and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will present their final report on air quality testing conducted at the Bright Feeds facility in January 2025.

Bright Feeds takes food waste and turns it into animal feed for agricultural uses, but many folks say that charge comes with a stinky and noisy price.

Since 2024, odor and noise issues at Bright Feeds have been a cause for concern in the community, prompting Bright Feeds and the town to work toward a resolution.

The big stink over the big stink, however, appears to be lessening, with Bright Feeds taking significant measures to deal with the problem.

Those measures will be discused Tuesday, and residents are encouraged to attend either in person or online via Zoom.
