Infant Battles Rare Disease, Berlin Police Rally To Assist
The Berlin PD's records clerk has a 1-year-old son with a rare disease, whose battle comes with significant financial costs.

BERLIN, CT — The union for the Berlin Police Department is taking care of one of its own as they have started a fundraising campaign to help a BPD employee whose son is seriously ill.
The Berlin Police Association has set up a GoFundMe page for an employee who works in the BPD records office.
"She works behind the scenes to help the police department serve the citizens of Berlin," wrote the BPA. "Many of you may have seen her at the records desk over the years assisting you with reports, now she and her family need assistance."

According to the union, her 1-year-old son has been diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), a rare disease requiring "prolonged treatment and frequent hospital stays."
Such treatments, which include chemotherapy, are expected for a few years.

According to the police union, this means high medical cost shares and unpaid leave from work, along with childcare needs for his older brother, which are necessary.
The union has established a $5,000 fundraising goal.
