Berlin-Peck Library Set To Launch New Catalog System
It will switch to a new catalog system in June, with temporary service limits.

BERLIN, CT — The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library will upgrade its computer catalog system this spring, replacing its current Encore platform with a new system called Polaris, with full launch expected in June.
The library announced the change Feb. 25, saying the upgrade will bring a “refreshed, easier-to-use interface” for patrons who search the catalog or place holds online.
A new mobile app is also scheduled to launch in June as part of the transition.

Berlin-Peck is one of more than 40 member libraries in the Library Connection Inc. consortium, which shares a common catalog. All LCI libraries will migrate to the new system at the same time.
Library officials said there will be temporary service disruptions during the transition, but emphasized that book checkouts will continue without interruption.

Key Dates and Service Changes
The timeline includes several periods when services will be limited:
- April 7: The current LCIMobile app will stop working. The new app is expected to launch in June. Library officials said there will be a period of several months when no app is available. Patrons who store their library card in the app are advised to take a screenshot for temporary use.
- May 18 to June 8: Items due during this period will be automatically extended. “We don’t want you to worry about due dates,” the library said.
- May 26 to June 3: The existing catalog will be in search-only mode. Patrons will not be able to access account information online, though searching will still function. Officials warned that some information may be incorrect and advised patrons to call before coming in to pick up an item.
- June 3: The new catalog is scheduled to go live.
- June (date to be announced): The new mobile app will launch.
Account and Data Considerations
During the migration, certain catalog features will be limited. Account access will stop working on May 26 in the old system.
While reading history data is expected to transfer to Polaris, the library recommends users back up their information as a precaution.
Staff are available to assist patrons with that process.
Library cards set to expire between April 1 and June 30 will have their expiration dates extended automatically.
The new app will be fully integrated with the Polaris system, allowing users to place holds, check out items, link family accounts, register for events, and receive notifications, according to the library.
Officials acknowledged that “even the best plans can run into hiccups” and noted that the listed dates may change.
Patrons with questions can contact the library at library@berlinpeck.org or by calling 860-828-7126 during library hours.
