BERLIN, CT - Local business owner and Republican David Rogan has filled a vacancy on the Police Commission, the Meriden Record-Journal reported. Rogan replaces Republican Robert Peters, who resigned due to a media report that he made racist statements.

The Berlin police union released a statement last month characterizing Peters' comments "ugly and reprehensible."

The New Britain Herald had reported that Peters was recorded telling residents that Berlin officers are taught to use fatal violence against African Americans. He also used offensive language against homosexuals and immigrants.
