Berlin Police Event To Benefit Special Olympics

An upcoming fundraiser will benefit the Special Olympics.

BERLIN, CT - Each year the Berlin Police Department along with law enforcement agencies around the State participate in the Connecticut Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. The Torch Run is a major fundraising event to support the Connecticut Special Olympic games each year. The 2019 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut will be held on Friday June 7th from approximately 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Our runners will begin on Christian Lane at the New Britain town line, and will travel through Berlin via Farmington Avenue, Main Street, Percival Avenue, Chamberlain Highway, and Southington Road.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run was started in 1986 and the Berlin Police Department has been participating in it for over thirty years. Officers taking part in the run will be soliciting sponsors and include: Lieutenant James Gosselin, Sergeant John McCormack, Sergeant Shawn Solek, Detective Scott Schreiner, Detective Ted Fuini, Officer Mark DePinto, Officer Tyler Cyr, Officer Brett Kelly, Officer Colin Gaffey and Officer Dylan Breen.

In 2019 a total of over 85,000 officers from local, state, federal, and correctional facilities from all over the world will carry the torch in 50 states and 42 countries. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics.
This year’s goal is to raise $500,000 for Connecticut Special Olympics. Any persons wishing donate or to sponsor a specific officer may contact Sergeant John McCormack, the Torch Run Coordinator, at (860) 828-7191. Checks can be made out to Connecticut Special Olympics and mailed to the Berlin Police Department, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, CT, 06037.
