Berlin Ponds/Lake Herbicide Treatments Resume This Week: UPDATE

BERLIN, CT — Three bodies of water in Berlin are slated for special herbicide/algaecide treatments this week, requiring some limitations on their use, according to town officials.

Work is slated at Paper Goods Pond, Railroad Pond and Veterans Memorial Park Pond in Berlin on Thursday, July 20, and Friday, Aug. 5.

Treatments have already been applied June 14 and last week on July 5.

Upton, Mass.,-based Water & Wetland LLC has been hired to do the work.

"The treatments are being conducted under permits issues by the Connecticut Departmet of Energy and Environmental Protection," wrote the Town of Berlin recently. "All products are EPA/CT approved for use in ponds and lakes."

The goal is to control nuisance and invasive weeds in the lakes/ponds, which can negatively impact the biology of the water bodies, as well as the quality of life for users.

According to the town notice, there will be neon-colored posters indicating treatments are forthcoming.

Once the treatments are applied, there will be multiple restrictions on pond/lake usage.
