BERLIN, CT β€” With school starting locally on Thursday, local responders today will be at the town's middle school for a training drill they hope to never need.

The Berlin Fire Department said at 5:30 p.m. Monday (Aug. 22) there will be an increase in emergency vehicles at McGee Middle School, 899 Norton Road, Berlin.

The department said this is not an emergency and is, rather, a "multiple casualty incident" training exercise.

"This is only a training exercise and there is no need for alarm," read a joint statement issued by Berlin Emergency Medical Services Chief David C. Bagioni and Berlin Fire Administrator James Simmons.

The exercise is being done in conjunction with the Berlin Police Department and multiple other agencies, they said.
