Berlin Senior Center Money Gets OK From State

The state has approved a $750,000 grant to begin plans for a community and senior center.

BERLIN, CT - The city will receive a $750,000 state grant to go toward the planning and design of a new community and senior center, according to a statement from Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz (D- Berlin, Southington). The grant has received final approval from the State Bond Commission.

“We have been talking with our town officials on the need for this project for a while, and this funding will allow the town to finally move forward with the project in earnest,” Aresimowicz said. “Our entire community will be able to enjoy the new center when it is completed. It will be a wonderful new facility for our town, and this planning grant is a big win for local property taxpayers.”

Aresimowicz said that the community will be involved in every aspect of process to ensure that the center is accessible to everyone in Berlin. To this end, a task force will be set up that will determine what services and amenities will be provided and exactly where the facility will be located.
