Berlin Senior Center Wins Major Honor

It recently earned recognition from the National Council on Aging.

BERLIN, CT — The Berlin Senior Center last week was named a winner of the National Council on Aging’s National Institute of Senior Centers Program of Excellence Awards.

It was named one of seven total senior centers "going above and beyond to provide older adults in their communities with helpful resources and opportunities to prevent social isolation," reads an announcement.

“We’re so proud to accept this award honoring all our incredible staff doing the work each day

with the clients we serve,” said Tina Doyle, the Berlin Senior Center director. “Older adults deserve much more than just a place to occupy their time, which is why we offer a range of resources and activities, from exercise classes, transportation, social events, and congregate meals.”

The Programs of Excellence awards are judged by a panel of peers and NISC Affiliate
members.

The competition is divided into seven categories: Marketing/Public Relations; Social
and Support Services; Health and Wellness; Intergenerational; Nutrition, Technology, Virtual
and Hybrid Programming; and the Modernizing Senior Centers Innovation Award.

The Berlin Senior Center entry “A Visit with our Transition Academy Friends," was the 2023
Programs of Excellence Award Winner in the Intergenerational category.
