Town of Berlin

BERLIN, CT — The holiday season is over and the winter drudgery of January has begun, with the great American tree dump now taking place nationwide.

And, according to Berlin officials, residents have some options to get rid of their Christmas trees now that the revelry has ended, the egg nog dumped down the sink and fruit cakes put in the trash.

In Berlin, trees will be collected curbside (on, or near, residents' regular trash collection day) the
week of Jan. 15.

Officials remind folks that the trees must be at least 6 feet away from their automated
collection cart so as not to interfere with the disposal of household refuse.

In addition, residents must remove all lights, decorations and plastic bags (skirts/wrappings) from the trees before placing them at the curb for disposal.

Trees will also be accepted for recycling at the Berlin Town Recycling Center on Massirio
Drive during normal business hours, which are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday, Jan. 13, and Jan. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon.
