BERLIN, CT — Municipal budgets are not exciting, but they are vital since they detail how the money you pay the town in taxes is spent — and how much you will have to fork over in the future.

The Town of Berlin's fiscal year 2024-25 budget process begins in earnest next week, with multiple budget meetings and presentations slated. All are open to the public.

It starts on Monday, March 4, with the Berlin town manager's budget presentation at 7 p.m. in the Berlin Town Council chambers at Berlin Town Hall, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin.

From there, the Berlin Board of Finance will spend much of March tweaking and trimming the spending plan, along with the school board.

Before the budget is sent to voters, it will go before the public at the March 26 annual budget hearing at 6 p.m. in the Berlin High School auditorium.

Afterward, the finance board will make final revisions if necessary and send the budget to the town council, which then votes April 3 to send it to a referendum.

Voters will have the final say on the spending plans at the annual budget referendum April 30 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
