Black Bear Found Dead Alongside I-84

State police have issued motorist advisories with tips on what to do in the event a bear is spotted or struck.

New Britain, CT - State police have issued some advisories for motorists following the discovery of a dead black bear alongside Interstate 84 in the New Britain area Tuesday morning.

The bear was struck sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning on the eastbound sound of the highway, Connecticut State Police reported on Facebook. State troopers called the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, which took the bear away.

"When operating your motor vehicle on the highway or roadway, not only do you need to watch for other vehicles, motorcycles, construction zones, potential roadway hazards, stopped emergency vehicles, and deer, but you need to keep an eye out for bear too!" police stated. "Not only can a deer or bear strike damage your vehicle or cause an accident, but a deer or bear running out in front of your vehicle can be a scary experience.
Often times hitting a deer or bear can't be avoided. If you hit a deer or bear and have damage to your vehicle or your vehicle becomes disabled, contact the police for assistance. Don't get out of your vehicle and poke the bear with a stick to see if it's alive......just a suggestion."
