Bridge Project To Prompt Closure Of Busy Berlin Street

BERLIN, CT — The Berlin Public Works Department will begin work to replace the Glen Street Bridge over the Mattabesset River, with construction scheduled to start on April 1.

Town officials said Monday that preliminary work will begin in the coming weeks, including tree removal, utility mark-outs, and surveying by the contractor, Dayton.

To speed up construction, Glen Street will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians near the bridge during the project.

The town has approved a detour route and released a plan showing the alternative path for traffic.

Officials asked residents to expect disruptions during construction.

Town officials said they "appreciate residents’ patience as the bridge replacement moves forward."
