Brush Fire Contained on Mountain in Berlin

Firefighters initially had difficulty accessing the blaze due to the terrain.

BERLIN, CT β€” A large brush fire on Lamentation Mountain Saturday night was contained by the Berlin Fire Department, with assistance from a neighboring fire company, despite initial difficulty in accessing the blaze.

Berlin Companies 1 and 3 were dispatched to the mountain for a brush fire, with smoke visible from the Berlin Turnpike. Locating the fire proved difficult due to the terrain, but crews were able to locate the blaze, which measured about a half acre in size, Lt. Christopher Sargis said.

A perimeter was set up around the fire to contain it for the evening, and crews were back at the fire Sunday morning checking for hot spots, Sargis said.
