• Why did you start your small business in Berlin, with history and what spurred your entrepreneurial spirit.

Oct. 1993

I was born and raised in Berlin in and really enjoyed the town so I wanted to start my business here. Started the business out of one of the bedrooms of my home on Crater Lane. I was working at the Traveler’s Insurance Company when I was laid off and decided at that time that I wanted to control my future.  With my wife’s support we decided to take a chance and open up the Real Estate office out of the house then as the business grew we leased space on New Britain Road. Now we own the building on Farmington Ave.

• When people think of your business, what sets you apart from others?

Customer service, every client is important whether they are involved with a million dollar transaction or a hundred thousand dollar transaction.   I treat all my client like I would want to be treated.  This has lead to 87% of my transactions coming from clients or referrals.

• What are you doing to attract and retain your customers during the economic recession?

I have always had success in retaining my clients so the economy hasn’t really affected the aspect of my business.  I am always looking to attract new clients so I have increased my marketing budget in papers and web based advertising.  Just increased my quarterly postcard mailings to include every house in Berlin.

• What's the most important ingredient in your success?

Customer service, for most people this will be their largest investment they will make in their life.  I make sure that we address all their concerns and that we research everything so my clients get the best possible price for their property whether buying or selling.

• Where would you like your business to be in five years?

I’m looking to hire 3-5 agents to the office.  I recently hired John Yacovino and he’s going to be a real assets to our company.  I’m also looking to possible add an office in Madison or Farmington.
