BERLIN, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Nine students from Eastern Connecticut State University participated in a Summer Research Institute that delved into the field of network science. The institute challenged students to perform network analyses of character interactions in a movie, in order to evaluate a hypothesis about the movie's social structure. Broken into three groups, they analyzed "The Matrix Trilogy," "The Chronicles of Narnia" and Disney's "Mulan." Among the participants was Cole Johnson of Berlin, who majors in Computer Science.

  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that Hannah Schulz of Berlin, a member of the class of 2021 majoring in civil engineering, was named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the spring 2018 semester. A total of 1,474 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI's spring 2018 Dean's List. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) began its 150th Commencement celebrations with the graduate students ceremony on Thursday, May 10, awarding nearly 830 master's and doctoral degrees. Miroslaw Popielarczyk of Berlin was awarded a master of science degree in manufacturing engineering management.
