Becker College, Worcester MA
- Valerie Slimskey, of East Berlin, was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society at Becker College. Slimskey is pursuing a degree in Veterinary Science-Pre-Veterinary. Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that honors academic excellence during a student's first year in college. Once a member of this prestigious honor society, the student will have the opportunity to build positive relationships with peers and faculty, give back to the community through volunteerism and service, and have access to numerous scholarship opportunities.

- A record number 23 students from Eastern Connecticut State University presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Memphis, TN, this April. Three students had two presentations, bringing the total number of presentations from Eastern to 26. Among the presenters was Kayla Tenore of Berlin who majors in Communication. Tenore's poster presentation was titled "Technology Usage And User Age, Effecting Well Being" and was conducted alongside faculty mentor communications professor Jehoon Jeon.
- The Third Annual CREATE Conference at Eastern Connecticut State University took place on April 21. CREATE stands for "Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern," and is the University's premier conference showcasing student research and creative activity. Stephanie Trevethan of Berlin presented a monologue titled "Just." Trevethan majors in Pre-Elementary Education and Business Administration. Trevethan said, "My research project was in the form of a short monologue from the perspective of a rape survivor. I chose this topic in order to create awareness and fight back against rape culture. The CREATE conference is a great opportunity to showcase my work and spread awareness within the community that I hold dear." The one-day conference featured more than 300 Eastern undergraduates who presented talks, professional posters, live music, dance performances, art and photography exhibits, documentary films and panel discussions.
- A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students were recently inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national honor society for the field of communication. Nicholas Germano and Kayla Tenore of Berlin were among the inductees; both major in Communication. The society recognizes students who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, a communication studies GPA of at least 3.25, are in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class, are enrolled in good standing and display a commitment to the field of communication.
Western New England University, Springfield MA
- Michelle Corriveau of Berlin was welcomed into Mortar Board National Honor Society on April 10, 2017 at the Western New England University chapter's annual induction ceremony. Corriveau is majoring in Elementary Education-Psychology. Mortar Board is the senior honor society at Western New England University. The society is open to those students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and leadership on campus and in the community. Students in the top 35% of the junior class are considered eligible for the society with the membership being selected by the existing members of the previous year. The Mortar Board Society hopes to recognize student achievement, while also serving as a focal point of planning and collaboration for senior leaders.
