Caution Urged On Back-to-school Photos, Berlin PD

BERLIN, CT — Local schoolchildren returned to the classroom Thursday, Aug. 25, and Berlin police issued a warning about back-to-school photos that parents in all towns could benefit from.

The department urged parents/guardians to be careful and "think before your share" back-to-school photos.

In the age of digital social media, back-to-school photos can be readily seen by people who, otherwise, might not have access to them, police said via Facebook.

"Back to school photos often reveal personal information about your child. School name, grade, age, and identifying features, etc. These can all be used by predators and scammers," Berlin police posted.

Police said parents/guardians should check the images carefully, especially in the background and make sure they do not transmit information a predator or scammer would want to have.

"No matter your privacy setting or friends, it’s best to keep personal information to a minimum," police wrote.
