Award-winning video
Eastern Connecticut State University's Center for Early Childhood Education (CECE) was recently notified that they have been awarded a bronze "Telly" Award for their video, "Fun Mud Day," featuring the work of Eastern faculty, staff and students. The video was submitted in the Health and Fitness category, and highlights an event that took place at the Child and Family Development Resource Center (CFDRC) this past May.

The event was organized by Kinesiology and Physical Education Professor Darren Robert and a group of his physical education students. It documents CFDRC toddlers, preschoolers and teachers attempting to maneuver a variety of wet and muddy obstacles designed to build strength, develop gross motor skills, and focus on competence and confidence.
Trafford Underwood of Kensington was one of the students who participated in the video. Underwood's major is Physical Education.

A Telly Award is the premier award honoring excellence in film and video productions; groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films; and outstanding local, regional and cable television commercials and programs. It is considered to be one of the most sought after awards by industry leaders, and entrants range from local production companies and ad agencies to large international firms.
Alpha Chi Honor Society
Natalie Souza of Kensington was recently inducted into the Eta Chapter of Alpha Chi Honor Society at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.
Alpha Chi is the oldest and most prestigious honor society at Belmont, and induction into the society is the University's highest academic honor awarded. Membership, by invitation only, is determined by a faculty member's endorsement of character quality and intellect of junior and senior students ranking in the top 10 percent of the University, academically.
Pi Mu Epsilon National Honor Society
Paige Young of Berlin was welcomed into Pi Mu Epsilon National Honor Society on April 8, 2016 at the Western New England University chapter's annual induction ceremony. Pi Mu Epsilon is the nation's most prestigious mathematics honor society. The purpose of the society is to promote scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions. Young is a Secondary Education-Mathematical Sciences major.
National Biological Honor Society
Sabrina Couceiro of Berlin was among a number of Eastern Connecticut State University students who were recently inducted into Eastern's Eta Omega chapter of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society. The event recognizes students who major in biology and who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, research and other academic pursuits.
Biology Professor Elizabeth Cowles said, "We celebrate our biology students during the Biology Awards and the Tri Beta induction ceremony. Members of Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society Eta Omega chapter must have a B or better average in their coursework. The department recognizes the top GPA student in each class year, the best independent study students, the most outstanding independent study students and those who bring recognition to Eastern through their actions."
The Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society was founded in 1922 and today has more than 175,000 lifetime members in more than 430 chapters throughout the United States. The Eta Omega Chapter at Eastern was founded in 1997.
Delta Omega Chapter of Delta Mu Delta
On April 19, Eastern Connecticut State University inducted select students into the Delta Omega chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the national honor society for business administration and related disciplines.
Caroline Scarrozzo of Berlin was one of the inductees. Her major is Business Administration.
This society recognizes outstanding students in Business Administration, Accounting and Business Information Systems. Membership in Delta Mu Delta is an honor indicative of earnest, intelligent purpose and rewarding achievement, the goals of the honor society.
Chi Alpha Sigman National Honor Society
Chelsea Vujs, of Berlin, was welcomed into Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society on March 1, at the Western New England University chapter's annual induction ceremony. Vujs, who is majoring in Psychology, is a member of the Women's Basketball team at Western New England University.
As a component of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program to foster athletic excellence, the Athletic Department annually inducts deserving student-athletes in the National Student Athlete Honor Society. Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes student-athletes who have completed five semesters of higher education, have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4, and who exhibit distinguished character in the community.
