The Civil War Letters of Lyman B. Wilcox book talk and signing

The Berlin Historical Society announces publication of "Field Music: From Antietam to Andersonville, The Civil War letters of Lyman B. Wilcox".  Lyman's story is told through letters to his younger brother, grandmother and other relatives back in Berlin.  Four members of the Historical Society have transcribed the letters and researched background information in what they describe as a "labor of love".  Lyman, who enlisted at age 17 in the Sixteenth Volunteer Infantry, a regiment some call the hard luck regiment.  Most of the Berlin contingent participated in the Battle of Antietam three weeks later, Aug 29, 1862. Lyman often illustrated his letters and those drawings are included in the book.  Readers will be touched by the quality of his writing and the poignant story of his family.  The book will be available for sale at a special price of $15.00 at the museum the night of the book talk and signing. Refreshments will be served. Proceeds will go to The Berlin Historical Society. The book will also be for sale at The Berlin Fair's Historical Society Museum Barn, Oct 5-7.
