UPDATE: Red Cross is Helping Families Displaced by Berlin Motel Fire
Firefighters were at the scene of the late Monday afternoon fire at the Salsbury Motel.

The American Red Cross is helping two families – three adults and one child in the wake of this afternoon’s fire at the Salsbury Motel on the Berlin Turnpike in Berlin.
The Red Cross provided help with emergency housing, clothing, food and infant supplies. Responders included Ginger Flynn, John Flynn, Bob Bertolo and Jan Bertolo.

The Red Cross also is providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire. Also provided was an envelope of information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more.

Berlin firefighters are battling a fire at the Salsbury Motel located at 829 Berlin Turnpike late Monday afternoon, according to reports.
The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Monday that prompted a response by Berlin firefighters along with personnel from the Meriden Fire Department. Firefighters from Cromwell, Newington, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield fire departments were providing fire coverage the rest of Berlin, according to The Courant.
There were initial reports that a family was trapped inside one of the three units that were affected by the fire, according to NBC Connecticut. The Red Cross reportedly is assisting two families who resided at the motel.
