Fire Breaks Out At Berlin Recycling Facility: BVFD

BERLIN, CT — Firefighters from all four Berlin fire companies responded Friday morning to a fire involving recycling equipment at a Christian Lane business, according to the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched at 8:17 a.m. to Automated Material Handling, 655 Christian Lane, for an alarm that was subsequently upgraded to a structure fire.

Arriving firefighters found an active fire underneath a conveyor that is part of a recycling baling machine.

A large amount of smoke had also filled the facility, officials said.

The location of the fire and limited visibility made it difficult for firefighters to reach the seat of the blaze.

Berlin's Task Force 51 partners were called to assist. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and ventilated the facility before clearing the scene.

No injuries were reported among employees or firefighters.

The Berlin Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
