Free Laptops? Berlin Library Offering Free Long-Term Laptop Loans

BERLIN, CT — Some Berlin residents who do not have a computer at home could receive a free laptop to use for as long as five years through a statewide program.

The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library has received a limited number of laptops through the Laptop ConneCT Program, an initiative administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection in partnership with the Connecticut State Library.

Because supplies are limited, the laptops will be distributed by lottery among eligible applicants.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 18, have a valid library card, live in Berlin, East Berlin, or Kensington, and not already have access to a computer at home.

Applicants must also participate in at least one qualifying state or federal assistance program: SNAP, the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, HUSKY Health or Medicare.

Residents selected through the lottery will be required to attend an individual consultation followed by two training sessions.

Applying does not guarantee that a resident will receive a laptop because the library has only a limited number available.

The Laptop ConneCT Program is funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.
