Man Killed In Accident At Recycling Center In Berlin: Police

The industrial accident claimed the life Tuesday of a 66-year-old employee, Berlin police said.

BERLIN, CT — A 66-year-old male employee at a local recycling facility was killed Tuesday afternoon in an accident at work, Berlin police reported.

According to the Berlin Police Department, at 12:57 p.m. Tuesday, police and emergency responders were called to a report of an industrial accident at CWPM, 415 Christian Lane, Berlin.

Police said the report was about an accident involving a payloader and a person possibly trapped underneath.

"Upon arrival, we determined a large industrial payloader had struck and seriously injured a worker at the facility," wrote BPD Deputy Chief Drew Gallupe in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

Police said officers and emergency responders with the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department administered life-saving efforts, but the victim was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to The Hospital of Central CT in New Britain.

The Berlin Police Department will be investigating this accident, assisted by Midstate Accident Reconstruction Squad.

OSHA was also contacted to respond and assist with the investigation.

The victim was a 66-year-old employee of CWPM whose identity is not being released pending notification of family.
