New Berlin Fast-Casual Eatery Opens After PZC OK

The seafood take-out place specializes in lobster, with the town's zoning board giving final approval last month.

BERLIN, CT β€” Winter's wrath may still be upon us, but summer will, eventually, arrive.

And when it does, there is a new place in Berlin to enjoy that quintessential culinary journey β€” seafood and, especially, lobster.

The Berlin Planning and Zoning Commission last month unanimously approved a special permit and site plan for a new to-go style restaurant, called"Lobster King," at 1176 Farmington Ave. during a special meeting on Jan. 15.

The application was filed by Deanaize and Demetrius Mack, operating as Lobster King LLC, for property owned by Kids LLC.

Once a public hearing on the application was closed, Commissioner Timothy Zigmont moved to approve the special permit and site plan, subject to staff comments.

After a second, the commission approved the application unanimously.

Berlin Town Planner Maureen Giusti said the proposal involves no changes to the site and meets parking requirements.

Berlin PZC Chairwoman Joan Veley asked whether the restaurant would include a drive-through.

Demetrius Mack said it would not, describing the concept as a to-go style restaurant with food made to order and indoor seating available.

Mack said the business plans to operate with one kitchen employee and one employee handling orders.

A dedicated dumpster is located at the rear of the building for the restaurant’s use.

The restaurant is expected to be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., six days a week.

Mack said ownership had not yet decided whether the business would be closed on Mondays or Tuesdays.

During the public hearing, Chris Edge of 240 Kensington Road spoke in support of the application, stating that the applicant has been a chef for some time and that he is excited about the restaurant coming to town.
