BERLIN, CT β€” A common election season bugaboo has caught the attention of the Berlin Police Department so much that it has posted a reminder Monday of what scofflaws face.

According to the BPD, the town's police department has been hit with reports of the theft or vandalism of political signs.

The issue is a common one for towns and took place even before the nation's political climate further toxified itself over divisions the past five years.

Local police said such signs are property and, as such, violators will be held to the standards of the law.

"We would like to remind everyone to please respect others property," wrote the BPD.
"Any theft or damage to political signs will be investigated and potentially result in criminal charges for larceny, criminal mischief and/or trespassing."
