Quinnipiac U Professor Named 2019 Computer Educator of the Year

HAMDEN, CT - Richard McCarthy of Berlin, professor of computer information systems at Quinnipiac University, has been named the 2019 Computer Educator of the Year by the International Association for Computer Information Systems.

The Computer Educator award recognizes individuals who have exceptional research and teaching skills, have made significant contributions to the information systems community and have a national or international reputation.

“When we determine the award recipient, we look for people who go beyond their department and even their university in serving the information systems community,” said Robert Behling, IACIS executive director. “We are pleased to award this to Richard McCarthy.”

McCarthy said, "I am thrilled to be recognized as this year’s computer educator of the year. It is an honor to be recognized for teaching and research in information systems education. I work with an extraordinary group of colleagues in the computer information systems department and it is a tremendous recognition that highlights the state-of-the-art program that we have built.”

During his career, McCarthy has been a prolific researcher and writer, publishing more than 50 academic journal articles, a recent textbook on predictive analytics, book chapters, case studies and instructor manuals, and more than 40 conference proceedings.

McCarthy, who joined the Quinnipiac faculty in 2001, has a doctor of business administration in information technology management from Nova Southeastern University. He also has an MBA from Western New England University and a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Central Connecticut State University.
