Shop Locally For Your Sweetheart

Valentine's Day flowers and arrangements right here in town.

For those of you who are looking for something special to send to the object of your affection on Valentine’s Day, Brierley Johnson, 87 High Road, Kensington, and Sharon Elizabeth’s Floral Designs, 202 Mill Street, Berlin, are two florist shops in the area that have a wide variety of roses, spring flowers, and other popular flora, as well as potted plants, candy and gifts.

“We have all shades of roses and a large selection of spring flowers,” said Brierley Johnson owner, George Brierley. “Some people send other types of flowers on Valentines Day, such as tulips, daffodils, or freesia, a European flower with a wonderful fragrance.”

Brierley Johnson has been in business for 52 years. Their greenhouse offers a display of cyclamen and other potted plants. Some of the flowers offered are grown in South America where there are better conditions for growing.

“It’s much warmer there,” Brierley said. “They have more daylight and warmth because they’re closer to the Equator and the days are longer.

Brierley Johnson is open Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sharon Elizabeth’s has a large supply of roses and other popular flowers one might want to send.

If you want to say “I love you” with just one rose, you might want to get a long stem rose.

“All of the roses are of the same quality,” said co-owner Seb Malespini. “The longer stems are usually more desirable.”

Roses of all colors are available, as well as wrapped bouquets of other types of flowers. For example, Star Gazer Lilies, Daisies, Carnations, Mums, Snapdragons, and Hydrangeas, may be the flower you want to send. Whatever your choice, it can be made into a bouquet.

“We also have a heart shaped ivy topiary, chocolates, and balloons,” said Malespini. “Whatever the customer wants, we can make up.

Sharon Elizabeth’s is open on Valentine’s Day from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekly hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
