Taxpayers To Comment On $100.5M Berlin Budget Plan Tuesday

The mill rate is expected to increase regarding the proposed 2023-24 town and school spending plan.

BERLIN, CT — Taxpayers worried about town spending and how much that will require them to pay in taxes are asked to come to a special budget hearing on Tuesday.

The Town of Berlin is hosting its annual budget hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the McGee Middle School auditorium, 899 Norton Road, Berlin.

The complete town/school combined budget for 2023-24, according to the Berlin Board of Finance, is $100.64 million, 1.9 percent larger than the current combined budget.

Included in the overall budget is a school spending plan that is proposed at $51.95 million, a 5.8 percent increase from current education spending.

The proposed mill rate for the new spending plan is far from finalized, but early budget projections had the hike at about 3 mills.

Voters will have the final say on April 25 at the town's budget referendum, with polling locations open form 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
