BERLIN, CT — The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department warned residents to use caution as icy conditions persisted into Wednesday morning, with a special weather statement issued for black ice during the commute.

In a notice to the community, the department said roadways in town remain slippery as temperatures remain at freezing.

Fire officials also reported that Companies 2 and 3 responded overnight to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 North involving a jackknifed tractor-trailer.

According to the department, the truck’s fuel tank was compromised in the crash, prompting a response from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to assist.
