Unitarian Universalist Church in Meriden Worship Service - October 4, 2015

October 4 – 10:30 AM – "A Place in the Choir" – Intergen. Blessing of the Animals Worship Leaders: Rev. Dr. Jan Carlsson-Bull, M. Nolan

St. Francis of Assisi is the legendary patron saint of animals. While Unitarian Universalists don’t adhere to the notion of sainthood, on behalf of Francis of Assisi on this day that thousands of churches celebrate the Feast of St. Francis, might we cut some slack in our literalism and honor this monk’s profound spiritual connection with creatures whom he gathered for that first live crèche eight centuries ago? Please bring your animal companions—live, photographed, stuffed teddy bears even—for this service in the Spiral Garden of animal friendly songs, rare silences, attempted meditation, stories, a brief homily, and individual blessings of our creatures great and small. Please bring living pets leashed or in a carrier and under your control at all times!
