BERLIN, CT — Members of the Berlin Police Department recently took part in the Mobile Penguin Plunge to raise money and awareness for athletes served by Special Olympics Connecticut.

The plunge, a fundraising tradition that challenges participants to jump into icy water, supports year-round sports training and competition programs for nearly 14,000 athletes across the state.

Police department members joined the event to show support for the organization’s mission and the athletes it serves.

In a statement accompanying the effort, the department said the experience of entering the cold water was “worth it” to help highlight the work of Special Olympics Connecticut and the athletes who participate in its programs.

The department also thanked community members who donated or cheered on participants during the event.

Special Olympics Connecticut provides sports training and competitions throughout the year for athletes of all abilities, relying heavily on community fundraising events such as the Mobile Penguin Plunge.
